Field Participation
ZOO STAFF PARTICIPATION: Pacific Bird Conservation encourages Zoo staff participation in our field projects. Currently we have trips planned to the Marianas islands every year up until 2032 where we will be collecting birds for translocation and captive programs. PBC also conducts community education activities while on the islands to encourage local support for conservation.
Persons interested in participating in field activities should contact PBC to get additional information. Participants will need to pay PBC $2500 to cover hotel, ground transportation, and project expenses. You will also need to pay for your airfare and food allowance. Our trips are usually 3 to 4 weeks long and participants are able to work a two week shift or they can work the whole trip if they have time. The Mariana trips usually take place during the end of April and the beginning of May of each year. Additional trips are being planned for Samoa.

Captive Programs
The Mariana Avifauna Conservation Program does maintain 4 species of birds in captivity: Mariana fruit dove, White-throated Ground dove, Bridled white-eye, and Golden white-eye. All species are managed by a species manager. All of the birds in our program belong to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands government and are being maintained as a safe guard in case their species goes extinct in the wild.
Accredited zoos in good standing are encouraged to participate in our captive management programs. Zoos which are interested in supporting our captive breeding/research programs must be able to handle at least two pairs of birds, their potential offspring and provide an annual report on status of birds to the species manager. If your zoo is not able to handle the demands of a breeding/research program you may opt to receive birds as a holding facility where birds are used for exhibition only. You will be required to provide the species manager an annual report on the status of the birds.
If you are interested in participating in our captive management programs please contact Pacific Bird Conservation and we will get you into contact with our species managers.
